.

I began by creating traditional works on paper, but I was not satisfied with the results. They looked too much a copy of East Asian calligraphic works - and also they did not seem to have enough life and spirit. When I gave it a 3 dimensional quality by having them on columns, it felt "right".

These "columns" incorporate Hebrew verses that can ( but need not be) used as meditational devices. They are verses that I find relevant, and/or have a strong Jewish tradition, such as the Shivity (I will set God before me always).
But a deeper challenge, one  I have found more interesting of late is trying to dissolve the duality of process and product. I do not want to be overly concerned with the result - i have a certain belief that if the process of writing can somehow be egoless, free, a conduit, a vessel for a higher source, then the result of  such a writing would be more worthwhile - certainly for me and hopefully noticeable and "felt" by the viewer.

I feel words are inadequate to describe the preparation - it is an unstructured  meditation involving awareness - of breath, mind, body - a lot of letting go, or letting be. It is a state of "Trust"
